All five hundred and forty eight Voyages are now available to claim in “Friendly Claiming” mode via invitation (See Below).

Public / Open Claiming is not here yet.

Voyages that have been reserved will have a note under the photograph in the main gallery like so :

‘Voyages 420 | Reserved for Anon Voyager’

If you don’t yet have an invite and would like to own one of my photographs or simply know more about my work, I’d love to talk! Please send me a twitter DM by clicking on this bird icon, thank you.

Voyages will ‘Mint Out’ if / when all the works have all found homes. This might take years if ever. There is no hurry, Voyages has been 10 years in the making. I love the process of connecting with collectors and making friends one by one and am enjoying every step of this journey.

On a more practical note, I do have a hectic family, social and flying schedule (wouldn’t have it any other way!) and will be doing all the claim, printing and merch stuff myself.

Contract and Token details :

The Voyages contract was created using Manifold, the address is 0xE202bAE0663Ba0cdd008AC948921871167A9d09f

I got to meet Richerd (wearing his signature 3D glasses!) at NFTNYC 2021 and I am so grateful to him and the team for building Manifold.

A note about Thanks.Page!

Since my ‘Friendly Claiming’ policy involves a ‘Pay as you like” dynamic that is not available off the shelf at any of the major web3 full stack deployment offerings (such as Manifold, ThirdWeb etc) it leverages a VERY special product created by a small team of devs who built Thanks.page!

Thanks.page is an app plugin they built for manifold. I am forever grateful to them.

The Voyages thanks.page contract address is: 0xE8f23C38334e936820997817a65682b597c8C53f.

If / when you decide to claim, this will be the contract you interact with, please check it carefully.

An introduction to what I’m calling Friendly Claiming

First let me answer the most obvious question: Why issue my Voyages photographs as NFTs?

In 2017, I went ‘crypto native’, soon after falling down the bitcoin rabbit hole. It has now gotten to the point where outside of flying airliners and my art practice through photography I can’t think of doing anything else.

Aside from providing an immutable record of provenance, NFTs are also an ideal coordination mechanism for community. The life of the constant traveller is inherently lonely and isolating. Voyages was always on some level about calling out to and finding my fellow tribe of travellers and wanderers. This is my hope for Voyages. That each of these photographs finds a home with someone who feels the way I do about the world.

So…Friendly Claiming?!

I want the act of acquiring your Forever Voyages to be a personal, bespoke experience. If you are reading this you already know I’m an NFT ‘degen’ myself. I’ve minted many mints, and seen many artists try different, creative ways to find their audience and be fair to their collectors.

How do I create an experience that is fair, feels personal and is un-hyped?

Here is the idea cloud I worked with :

  • Invitation only, or announcement within a circle of friends / followers / fellow community members.

  • Friends of friends: Invitees are welcome to pass on invitations to their circle.

  • Interaction, Conversation, Dialogue. Hopefully all leading to more depth being added to each Voyages photograph for both Artist and Owner.

  • Collector decides price. (See: Alfred Stieglitz)

  • “Delegated Copyright”

  • ‘Artist Gated Mint’

In summary, we choose each other, you choose the Voyages that speaks to you and our dialogue adds more layers of depth and meaning to each Voyages that is claimed in this collaborative way.

Here are the Friendly Claiming steps:

  1. I invite you to browse the Voyages Gallery here

  2. If the work vibes with you, you choose a photograph you like, or create a shortlist.

  3. DM me on Twitter or Farcaster (or reply to the discord invitation post) with the Voyages ID of the picture(s) that speak to you the most. It would mean a lot to me if you could add a short note about you, the traveller. I’m interested in learning about the traveller, the adventurer, the Voyager in you. At this step, if you wish, you could also indicate your preferred [MAKEITYOURS].Voyages.eth ENS subdomain so I can reserve it for you.

  4. Alternatively you can DM me with questions or comments on one or many Voyages and we can start a conversation. As you saw above, I’m hoping for this to be a bespoke and interactive experience, a conversation between artist and collector. I want you to get to know me. And I’d like to get to know you, dear Voyager.

  5. If your preferred Voyages is taken (in the order I receive DM’s or discord replies) I will let you know and either suggest another that I think you might like or go down your shortlist to the next available Voyages.

  6. Once we have a photograph selected, I will create a “Thanks Page” of your preferred photograph and allowlist your preferred address using the Thanks.page app extension to Manifold. It will look like this: https://www.thanks.page/bryan

  7. If you would like to have editions of your Voyages (for eg. to give out as gifts or memberships) this is possible using Manifold’s edition minting feature. This would mean that some Voyages would be 1/1 while others might be an edition of 10/20/69/420 etc… I haven’t thought this through fully and I’m not sure if it’s a direction I’d like to go in just yet. But it’s super intriguing to me so let’s talk! UPDATE: I’ve started doing this and it’s FUN!

  8. You can Browse all VoyagesWithLove Editions here.

  9. If you know of a gallery or platform that might find Voyages worthy of consideration, I’d love to talk.

  10. In the inspiring spirit of Alfred Stieglitz's incredible career as gallerist and his work with Little Galleries, The Intimate Gallery and An American Place, you can choose to pay as much or little as you like. I’d suggest erring on the side of lower than higher. These are artworks. I have no roadmap, no staking for $SKY tokens, no 3D avatars dropping soon(TM). You can have the work for free. I invited you to claim because I want a Voyages to be in your possession.

  11. Note that I said Possession, and didn’t say Collection…many of you have Notable Wallets! I know your addresses are watched. So if you prefer, you can claim your Voyages from an undoxxed wallet address in step 6 or 7 above.

  12. Choosing to claim as ‘anon’ and in peace also automatically ensures your name is not displayed in the “Owned By” field under your Voyages in the Main Gallery. It would say “Anon Voyager” instead.

  13. (I say the following with utmost humility) Many of the people I’m reaching out to and hoping will own a Voyages are artists whose work is wonderful and important. If you have art that you’d like to trade for one of my photographs instead of a payment, even (especially!) if it’s a proof or sketch, that would mean SO MUCH to me.

A note on Dyads ie ‘Matching Voyages’ or ‘Linked Voyages’

As you browse through and spend some time with the collection, you will notice there are more than a few Voyages that are essentially the same scene but The scene is shot from two points a few nautical miles apart (the aircraft travels at approximately 8 nm per minute) in such a way as to make the two photographs a diptych or dyad.

With these, each of the pair are tagged in their metadata with “DYAD”.

My hope is for these ‘Matching Voyages’ or ‘Linked Voyages’ to be collected together - if you so wish. You also have the option of collecting just one and leaving fate and timing to decide who the other goes to. If you are choosing to pay for your Voyages and it is one of a DYAD pair, the companion piece is included and not to be considered a separate purchase.

Here are a few examples of DYADs:

Voyages Copyright

All rights reserved…for now!

I’d love for Voyages to be CC0, ( or VPL!) many of you know I’ve been asking around in the community and gathering thoughts, information and opinions since before the CC0 meta was a thing.

For now I’d like to gather my first few collectors and get their opinion on this before making a decision.

One crazy idea I’ve played with is this idea of “Delegated Copyright” where the collector gets to decide what they prefer and then I add that as a metadata tag before minting.

So how I think this would work is: If you want to claim say Voyages #45 and you want to hold commercial rights to the image then we enshrine that in the metadata by adding an appropriate tag / comment.

Would this even work? Let me know what you think.

Royalties

Royalties have been set to 5%, but I would never hold it against you if you decide not to pay this fee, I mean it.

No marketplace filters have been put in place either, so looking forward to Machi wash trading 100 Voyages at a time on Blur in the near future :)

Transaction Safety

Let’s talk about safety!

Please crosscheck the contract address is the same as the address I will post publicly on twitter and this website.

My twitter account has non-sms 2FA but if I start announcing free MAYC giveaways or asking you for money in DMs, I’ve definitely been hacked.

More generally, Crypto and NFTs are bearer assets. As we always say, not your keys not your coins (or NFTs!)

In other words, the name of game here is keeping the keys to your wallet safe. Most wallets hacks result from either keys that are compromised (more common with browser wallets) or by accidentally approving a malicious transaction that gives an attacker permission to move your funds and or NFTs.

Use a hardware wallet. Storing your assets in a browser extension is not best practice. Learn what a seed phrase actually is and how it is used. Then learn how to protect your seed phrase correctly, there are many guides available.

Your long term crypto holdings must ideally be sent to a wallet address that has never interacted with any contracts or Dapps.

While everyone’s risk appetite and security considerations are unique, here are some of the tools I use, for you to consider if you haven’t already:

Gnosis Multisig Vaults for long term holdings

Revoke Cash - for checking and revoking contract permissions

Delegate Cash

Revoke Cash browser plugin - immediately pops up and warns you before you approve any spends

Trezor and Ledger Wallets - Reputable Hardware wallets
